The story begins with a transmigration into a desperate situation. Pei Ming (Xu Ming), a graduate student researching the history of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, unexpectedly transmigrates to the third year of Shengyuan in Southern Tang (939 AD), only to discover that he has become Xu Wen's grandson, wanted by the imperial court. Later, Southern Tang is defeated, and he is sent north to Northern Song as a prisoner. Though his life is spared, he never stops thinking about restoring his kingdom. He secretly builds up his strength and waits for the right moment.
