The mist and rain in the south of the Yangtze River cannot lock the iron hooves of the warlords. Overnight, Gu Caiwei, the daughter of the Gu family, and her family were ruined. She had to disguise herself as a man and escape alone to Shanghai, a city where glitz and crisis coexist. With her excellent literary talent, she became "Gu Wei", a young reporter in Shanghai, but she didn't know that her colleague Lin Yu was an underground party member who cared about her family and country. She also didn't know that a failed assassination would bring her into the sight of gangster Shen Mohan and win him a new look. Under the pen is the battlefield where she delivers information; the painting and calligraphy are the drawings she draws of the enemy camp. Under Lin Yu's guidance, she grew from an orphan who avenged her family to a warrior fighting for her country. And under Shen Mohan's protection, she glimpsed complex emotions in the dark world. When the shadow of the Japanese military conspiracy enveloped Shanghai, arrests and torture followed one after another. The fate of the three people was intertwined. Amidst gunfire and gunpowder smoke, they jointly performed a legend of troubled times driven by the hatred of the country and the family.

On December 13, on this special day that carries national memory and feelings about home and country, I came across this heart-touching book. Flipping through the pages of the book, the past engraved with struggle and sacrifice slowly unfolded, which made me understand more deeply: today's stability, smoothness, and ordinary fireworks never come out of thin air, but are gifts from countless ancestors who have overcome obstacles and carried forward with heavy burdens. Only by remembering history and paying tribute to the martyrs can we better understand the preciousness of a good life. We should also be in awe in the future and live up to time and this hard-won happiness.
