The Cold Moon’s Substitute: The Prince’s Amnesiac Consort

The news that Xie Zihan, the God of War and Fifth Prince of the Western Yue Kingdom, had lost his princess consort Yu Zhao’er, the Chancellor’s legitimate daughter, left him utterly broken. His political enemies had plotted against her, and she had fallen from a cliff into the water, perishing. At the same time, the beloved Princess Zhaozhao of the Southern Liang Kingdom had accidentally drowned. To stabilize the court, Crown Prince Xiao Jingheng claimed Yu Zhao’er, who had drifted downstream, resembled his sister and had lost her memory, and made her the new “Princess Zhaozhao.”

A year later, the two kingdoms held peace talks. At the banquet, Xie Zihan saw the “princess,” whose face was identical to his late wife’s, acting intimately with the Southern Liang Crown Prince. His wine cup shattered in his hand. He cornered her against a wall, his voice hoarse. “Yu Zhao’er, I’d recognize you even if you turned to ashes!” But she backed away in alarm. “Your Highness, you have the wrong person. I’m Princess Zhaozhao of Southern Liang.”

He watched her share perfect harmony with the crown prince, treating another man with the same tenderness he remembered. Jealousy and fury burned away his reason. Then, during an assassination attempt at the palace banquet, she instinctively used the self-defense technique only his princess consort knew and shielded him. Xie Zihan’s eyes reddened. He swore that whether she was alive or dead, a princess consort or a princess, he would take her back and make her remember who he was.
