Minecraft

When 17-year-old Shuhua Yi finds the long-forgotten icon for the game “Journey” on an old computer, a sudden blue flash sears her fingertip. When she opens her eyes again, she's standing in a blocky world of humus and oak, with two overlapping moons hanging overhead. This isn't an ordinary sandbox game.

Her hand trembles as she picks up a stone pickaxe. There's no tutorial, no quest markers, only a distant roar that doesn't sound like any living creature. When night falls early, the Creeper's green patterns swell beneath the moonlight into a glaring threat. Acting on instinct, Shuhua Yi uses her first block of oak to build a low wall. As the torch flares to life, she sees a faint, pixel-like glow seeping from the dirt on her palm.

This isn't a game. It's an invitation to another world.
