Synopsis of Echoes of the Old World (This novel is post-apocalyptic wasteland fiction with hard-hitting philosophical themes. Read at your own discretion):
This is a wasteland world destroyed by the cataclysm known as “Silent Decay.” No one can speak. The old world tried to create a unified language with the “Voice of Laplace” to eliminate conflict, but instead unleashed a plague of thought. Humanity was either reduced to “Echoes,” repeating a single action over and over, or stripped of language and emotion. To stop the disaster from spreading, Clockwork City enacted the “Silence Protocol,” suppressing every sound in the name of absolute order. Siler the Bellmaker holds the power of life and death, and regards “silence” as the only rule that can ensure humanity’s survival.
The mute scavenger Ya is both a survivor of the cataclysm and someone who lived through its tragedy. His family were key members of the “Prometheus Project,” and the genetic shackles his mother placed on him to protect him left him a voiceless, lonely soul. While scavenging, he accidentally finds a gear from the old world, awakening “Zero,” a damaged robot carrying his father’s consciousness. The gear is not only the link between them, but also the key to uncovering the truth behind “Silent Decay.”
Seeking the “source of sound” that can break the curse of muteness and expose the conspiracy behind the cataclysm, Ya and “Zero” set out across the wasteland. They must cross the junk-filled abyss of Rust Canyon, the resonant traps of the Crystalized Forest, and the time-warped Labyrinth of Silence. They must also fight off the Iron Raven Squad of Clockwork City and evade the deadly pursuit of the Inquisitors, while seeking a mysterious resonance with the “Weavers of Speech,” who have evolved an entirely new civilization...
