Strange Tales of the Tang Dynasty: Blood Bhavacakra

During the Jinglong era of the Tang Dynasty, ghostly shadows lurk beneath the splendor of a prosperous age. A bloodstained manuscript titled The Record of Becoming a Ghost appears, prophesying seven “inhuman” cases that could bring the dynasty to ruin.

Disgraced genius Su Yanchen, a minor official of the Court of Judicial Review, is forced to partner with Ashina Lan, a Hu coroner whose origins are shrouded in mystery. One excels at discerning the hidden schemes of human hearts, while the other can unravel the mysteries of yin and yang. From the imperial palace in Chang’an to borderland towns, from noble estates to hidden corners of the martial world, they are dragged into a vast conspiracy sweeping across the realm by one uncanny case after another: dream curses and rainmaking rites, skin-shedding and soul-swapping, tomb guardians stealing treasures, and living corpses in ancient temples…

Su Yanchen gradually discovers that the old injustice that brought his family to ruin is inextricably linked to the origins of The Record of Becoming a Ghost. They are investigating not only the true culprit, but also a deadly game that threatens the fate of the Tang Dynasty. When the final dance of the “Blood Pòsuō” unfolds before the Taiji Palace, who is still human, and who has already become a ghost?
