As a storm swept across the Pacific, marine biologist Lu Shiyan found a mysterious man washed onto the deck of his research vessel by the giant waves: Lin Zhihan. Fine silver-blue scales covered his body, translucent webbing stretched between his fingers, and his gills were still faintly moving. He was clearly no ordinary human.
Lu Shiyan risked everything to hide him in a seawater tank in the lab. When Lin Zhihan woke, he had lost his memory. He reacted instinctively to low-frequency sounds from the deep sea and could not stay away from water for long. Lu Shiyan named him “Zhihan” and tried to help him discover his identity, but this drew the attention of a secret organization called Haige. They believed Lin Zhihan was a survivor of the legendary “civilization beneath the Pacific” and wanted to extract his genes so they could control the deep sea.
To evade pursuit, Lu Shiyan took Lin Zhihan down into the depths of the Pacific. Along the way, Lin Zhihan gradually awakened his abilities: he could communicate with giant whales, move freely in the deep sea ten thousand meters below the surface, and sense geological shifts on the ocean floor. Fragments of his memory kept bringing back the image of a glowing underwater city and a catastrophe that destroyed a civilization.
While evading Haige, the two joined forces to stop a tsunami triggered by an underwater volcanic eruption. They also drew closer to the truth about Lin Zhihan’s origins: he wasn’t a “survivor,” but a “new human” cultivated from ancient genes by the civilization beneath the Pacific to keep its legacy alive. And Lu Shiyan’s family, it turned out, had countless connections to the research team that discovered the underwater city a century ago.
