Secret Records of the Uncanny

A top-secret file sealed by the nation.

A solitary old man who once played a game of wits with ghosts and gods.

In official records, it is known as the Special Investigations Bureau.

In folk legend, it is the last of the spirit-walkers.

And Li An was the bureau’s founder and its final director.

Now gray-haired and weathered by age, he has chosen, after all has fallen quiet, to use his pen to unlock the sealed chamber of memories that has remained closed for decades.

This journal does not record stories, but the truth:

The extra shadow in a surveillance video.

The inexplicable organ failure in a forensic report.

The unfamiliar handwriting, dried on a victim’s fingertips at the scene of a family massacre...

One bizarre case after another, beyond the reach of science, made up the extraordinary life he lived in obscurity.

Through Li An’s words, readers will return to that stormy night and watch him guide a vengeful spirit to fulfill its final wish; venture into a century-old, cursed mansion and uncover the bloody secrets behind the ghostly knocking; and face an international organization profiting from dark magic as he defends the laws of the living at the boundary between yin and yang.

But this is more than a simple collection of strange cases. As the memories unfold, a hidden thread of fate begins to emerge beneath countless mysteries: the source of every case seems to point to the same forbidden name, long forgotten by history. As Li An writes of the past, he is also pursuing a final quarry in a hunt that has spanned half his life.

Case Files of the Strange: When the last file is opened, the truth is more chilling than any ghost.
