Lin Yue, a Lingnan teenager who skips school, gets into fights, and is mocked online as a “good-for-nothing,” is struck on the head by a century-old lion dance head and stumbles by chance into the world of traditional lion dancing.
The blue bricks before the ancestral hall still bear his bloodstains, while the kapok blooms atop the high poles have burst into fresh scarlet flames.
To prove himself, he and ten companions, all branded “good-for-nothings,” become disciples of Huang Xingshi, a former “Lion King.”
They learn to balance on poles, hold their stances, listen to the drums, and understand the spirit of the lion. From a scattered group, they become an ironclad team; from street performances to the world stage.
But when tradition collides with online traffic, and passion runs up against capital, they must choose between losing their roots and losing their art:
Will lion dancing become just a lively backdrop for short videos, or will the drums keep beating hot in their blood forever?
“When the lion drums sound, the blood runs hot; as long as the lion head stays aloft, China endures.”
“We’re not dancing a lion. We’re lifting ourselves high above the dust.”
“Preserving tradition isn’t about clinging to the past. It’s about letting an ancient flame light the way to the future.”
The Lion’s Soul: A Journey of Youth
When eleven teenagers lift the lion head above their own, they also lift the cultural confidence of an entire era.
Very inspiring
The plot is really shocking!
