Shaoxing, 2025. Li Yunzhou, a washed-up writer, lives in a cramped rental near Lu Xun's former residence, struggling through calls demanding new chapters, messages demanding repayment, and nagging about marriage. The vulgar plots he writes to please the masses clash violently with his lofty literary ambitions, pushing him to the brink of despair.
At a chance dinner, a mysterious fan gives him a black card that smells of osmanthus. When it inexplicably starts glowing in the middle of the night, Li Yunzhou realizes that his troubled life may not be a coincidence. A strange man in immaculate clothes who spits out date pits in the shadows, a bizarre dream he can't remember, and an ever-present, inescapable scent of osmanthus... Every clue points to a vast presence hidden behind reality: the “Fate Film Studio.”
He gradually realizes that he is not just a frustrated screenwriter, but a “character” being written and observed. His editor's roars, his parents' expectations, his ex-girlfriend's cold rejection, even every word he writes, may all be parts of a carefully arranged script.
Will he keep playing the tragic role fate has assigned him, or pick up his pen and rewrite the established plot according to his own will?
As the boundaries of reality begin to blur, Li Yunzhou must write the first plot twist in his own life.
