It will be hard for them to share a stage again in real life, but in the world of this novel, they can still rely on one another. Stay tuned for the sequel to “If You’re Going to Do It, Be Number One”!

Trial System: Codenamed “Credit Examiner,” a mysterious AI controls an endless trial space, where credits are the central currency. Complete tasks to earn credits; break the rules or fail, and credits are deducted. Anyone whose credits reach zero is trapped in the space forever. The trials revolve around “humanity’s subconscious fears,” “unsolved historical mysteries,” and “logical paradoxes.” Each instance is a separate space, with hidden clues foreshadowing events across different instances.

Main cast: Fourteen people are forced into the trials as part of a special graduation exam at Detective Academy. Each begins with skills suited to their strengths: A Pu in logical reasoning and psychological games; Wen Tao in mathematical analysis and codebreaking; Jun Wei in psychology and negotiation; Xiao Qi in information synthesis and crowd control; Kai Kai in mechanical operation and hands-on skills; Jiu Zhou in spatial awareness and imaginative connections; Huo Shu in hard science and experimental analysis; Ming Ming in attention to detail and empathy; Yu Tong in feminine intuition and trace tracking; Du Du in emergency medicine and toxin identification; Huang Zi in adaptability and out-of-the-box problem-solving; En Qi in supernatural perception and aura detection; Xiao He in process organization and rule interpretation; and Jin Ye in historical knowledge and document analysis. As they face the trials, the group develops a division of labor into a reasoning team, an execution team, and a support team, where trust and suspicion are intertwined.
