The entire school is dragged into a rule-based horror, where breaking a rule means death. Every rule is designed to turn the students against one another and make them suspicious of each other. Only she, the desk mate I’ve had a crush on for three years, quietly slips me a note when everyone else wants to hurt me: “The first rule is a lie. Trust me.” When a monster lunges from the shadows, she steps in front of me, her eyes turning into eerie vertical pupils. “Don’t be afraid,” she whispers. “I’m the biggest ‘horror’ in this whole place.”
