I haven't read much of the book, so I don't know how to comment on it. I think it's quite good, but I don't know if it's to your liking.
It's a rare good book to read, and the setting of everyone being able to evolve in the apocalypse is pretty good! The plot of the novel and the characterization of the characters are all done with care. It is not Madonna, nor is it infinitely dark!
