Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils: A Promise of Cattle and Sheep on the Frontier

This is a happy-ending fanfiction based on Jin Yong's Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. Turmoil erupts in Apricot Grove, and Qiao Feng is falsely accused because of his Khitan origins. But he forms a bond with A Zhu, who is searching for her mother. She uses her disguise skills to investigate the Manduo Manor and follows a pair of fish-shaped earrings to uncover the old romance between Ruan Xingzhu and Duan Zhengchun. She accompanies Qiao Feng to Shaolin to unravel the mystery of Xuanci, the "Leading Big Brother," and exposes Kang Min's plot in advance, ensuring the tragedy of dying in her father's place never happens.

Duan Yu finally wins Wang Yuyan's heart, and his Six Meridians Divine Sword protects her from Murong Fu's obsession. In a Western Xia ice cellar, Xuzhu finds Menggu again, and the leader of the Lingjiu Palace passes on the mantle of chivalry. Once the grievances at Yanmen Pass are settled and a pact between the Song and Liao is made, Qiao Feng takes A Zhu with him to the northern frontier. There, herds of cattle and sheep graze beside a wooden house with smoke curling from its chimney. Xiao Yuanshan and Ruan Xingzhu dote on their grandchildren, while Azi gives up poison-making and laughs as she tends the flocks beneath drifting clouds.

The promise made in Apricot Grove all those years ago, "cattle and sheep on the frontier," is finally fulfilled in the sunset glow, becoming a peaceful life in which they never let each other down. This is the gentle ending that the heroes of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils deserve: their chivalry remains unchanged, and their love finds its happy conclusion.
