When I woke up one morning and found a pair of fluffy fox ears on my head, I thought I was dreaming.
Then the huge, snowy-white tail in the mirror swished too.
Panicking, I sent my best friend a voice message: “What do I do? I've turned into a monster!”
Three seconds later, my childhood friend spoke coolly from next door: “What's there to panic about?”
He came in, powder compact in hand, and calmly helped me cover my ears. “I told you ages ago, all fox spirits turn out like this when they come of age.”
I bristled. “But you're human!”
He chuckled, a teasing breathiness suddenly creeping into his voice. “Who told you I was human?”
