Bai Yelin was just an ordinary psychologist, until his office started having paranormal activity. Literally.
Eerie “Safety Guidelines” appeared on the walls, and patients with no shadows came calling in the dead of night. Forced into a rules-based horror world called the Abyss of the Mind, he learns that smiling is essential for survival, silence is the rule that keeps you alive, and knowledge is deadly poison.
As he repeatedly skirts death by relying on his professional knowledge of psychology, he also happens upon an ancient swordsman from another world: Si Yi. This powerhouse of a teammate takes one look at him and declares, “You’re beyond saving.”
At first, Bai Yelin thinks they’re simply teaming up to struggle through survival-game dungeons. But he gradually discovers that behind these strange tales lurks a group of mysterious beings who call themselves “Shepherds.” They feed on human fear and despair, coldly observing and selecting their subjects, and even actively “cultivating” tragedies.
Because of the unique “fracture” in his soul, Bai Yelin is not only delicious prey, but also the “high-risk specimen” the Shepherds most want to study.
With the servants of evil gods and higher-dimensional observers closing in, Bai Yelin grips the bronze mirror that reflects the human heart and turns to his only teammate:
“What do we do now?”
Si Yi slowly draws the ancient sword that can sever the rules. His deep blue eyes are cold and merciless.
“Cure the sick, slay the ghosts, and then... kill the gods.”
