[Global emergency broadcast, ]

At midnight, the news broadcast was abruptly cut off by static. A moment later, a cold, mechanical voice rang out through every electronic device on Earth. Phones, televisions, and car radios all sounded at the same instant:

“World War III has ended.”

“Activating the ‘National Destiny Survival’ mechanism.”

“The world's 197 sovereign nations will each have 10 citizens chosen at random and sent to a ‘National Destiny Desert Island.’”

“Rule: If all 10 people die, their nation will be struck from the map.”
