Setting: A parallel-timeline version of The Story of Minglan. The foundations of the Northern Song are crumbling in its final years. The Liao and Jin loom beyond its borders, while regional warlords are beginning to rise at home. Factional strife at court is fierce, with rival princes such as Prince Yong and Prince Yan secretly maneuvering for the throne. Famines are common among the people, and the age feels even more chaotic than in the original series.
Protagonist: Xia Ren, a modern veteran with a meticulous mind and a resilient spirit. Before he transmigrates, he takes part in emergency rescue work and learns basic hand-to-hand combat and mechanical principles. After transmigrating, he becomes a beggar on the outskirts of Bianjing, starving to death.
System: The Ironblood War Dragon System. It appears only at key moments after awakening and has no intelligent interaction. It uses tasks and points to provide weapons, blueprints, and leads on talented people. Its core functions are weapon exchange, limited to cold weapons and early firearms compatible with the technology of the era; a talent radar that identifies useful people within a hundred li; and military blueprints that unlock progressively, from gunpowder to steam engines.
Main heroines: Sheng Minglan, drawn to Xia Ren’s vision and sense of responsibility, grows from a shrewd household schemer into an aide in government affairs; Shen Luoyan, an original character and daughter of a loyal family, is a skilled martial artist who becomes a constable after her family is falsely accused, then joins the military after Xia Ren saves her; Zhang Guifen, a character from the original series, admires Xia Ren’s military ability and becomes a key link among military families; and Chu Yuenu, an original character and daughter of a Jiangnan embroidery merchant, is skilled in arithmetic and commerce and provides Xia Ren with financial support.
Core conflicts: Xia Ren’s modern way of thinking collides with ancient customs; a rising military force clashes with a corrupt court; personal relationships must be balanced against the struggle to rule the realm; and the System’s assistance must remain secondary to his own abilities.
