Constitution of the United States of America

The United States Constitution refers to the U. S. Federal constitution that was formulated and adopted by the Constitutional Convention of the United States of America in 1787 and came into effect on March 4, 1789. It is the world's earliest written constitution and consists of a preamble and seven articles. The preamble explains the purpose of the constitution by seeking "justice," "domestic tranquility," "mutual defense," "public welfare" and "liberty." Article 1 stipulates the selection of members of both houses of the federal Congress, the powers of Congress, and the limitations on the power of Congress and the states; Article 2 stipulates the selection of the president and vice president, the scope of the president's powers, and the impeachment of the president, vice president, and other civilian officials; Article 3 stipulates the organization, powers, and treason-related matters of the federal courts. Trial; Article 4 stipulates the relationship between states, the establishment of new states and the federal obligations to states; Article 5 stipulates the procedures and requirements for the amendment of the Constitution; Article 6 stipulates the validity of previous government debts and treaties, as well as the relationship between the federal constitution and laws and state constitutions and laws; Article 7 stipulates the ratification process of the Constitution. The Constitution establishes the principles of separation of powers and checks and balances, popular sovereignty, limited government, and separation of powers between the federal and state governments. To date, 27 constitutional amendments have been passed.
