This drama tells a story that took place in a courtyard house in Beijing from the 1960s to the 1990s. He Yuzhu is a chef in the canteen of a steel factory. He is kind-hearted but outspoken. He is known as "Silly Zhu". Qin Huairu, a steel factory worker, lived in the same hospital. She was filial and capable, and had a son or two under her knees. However, her husband died of a work-related injury and her life was difficult. Xu Damao, a projectionist from a steel factory, lives in the courtyard. He is selfish and is the enemy of Sha Zhu.
