The protagonist Shen Qing appears to be an intern at the "Anning Mental Hospital". In fact, he carries a secret: he can see and absorb the "bad luck" and "curse" in others, at the cost of suffering the corresponding pain himself. He uses this special hospital as a cover to deal with various mysterious incidents in the city.
There are no pure "monsters" in the world. The so-called demons and weirdness are essentially "cursed entities" formed after the fragments of the ancient gods' divinity polluted living beings in the human world. The protagonist's ability is essentially to "heal" these broken fragments of the gods.
