[Wang Junkai] Under the Spotlight, Please See Me

“She returned to age fifteen, not to take the college entrance exam, but to stop photographing him.”

Twenty-six-year-old entertainment reporter Li Jingran had just ended the miserable chapter of her paparazzi career outside Beijing's Fifth Ring Road. After refusing to secretly photograph a certain top-tier star, she had handed in her resignation without hesitation. The morning after a night of heavy drinking, she was horrified to discover that her consciousness had been cast into “the Fifth Space,” back to the starting point she most wanted to escape: the first day of high school.

Her old anxieties, rent, and unpaid installments on her camera had all been reset to zero. Now, with the mature mind of a twenty-six-year-old and the professional perspective of a former entertainment reporter, she had to put on a dowdy school uniform and face a fresh-faced fifteen-year-old reflection.

More absurdly, when she arrived at high school, she spotted the very person she had desperately tried to avoid before quitting: the boy who would one day stand at the top of the entertainment industry, a distant, unreachable star, now sitting right beside her.

He was once the subject of her reporting, the secret, distant crush she kept hidden in her heart, and the light she had chased with her camera before finally choosing to let go.

Given a second chance at life, Li Jingran doesn't know whether she has taken over the life of someone in another “parallel world” or been granted the ultimate chance to cut her losses in time. This time, she decides, she won't repeat her old mistakes.
