A Tribulation of Gratitude and Grudges

Regent Xiao Jing thought that by saving Rong Heng’s life, he could keep this sharpest of blades under his control forever.

He personally taught him the art of power, granted him glory, and even let him stand at his side.

Until the night of the palace coup, when Rong Heng ran a sword through his shoulder and imprisoned him deep within the palace.

“The first lesson Your Highness taught me was this: breaking someone’s wings is nothing compared to destroying their foundations.”

Xiao Jing laughed softly through the pain. “You’re wrong... I saved the last lesson...”

His bloodstained fingers brushed Rong Heng’s chest. “I’ll teach you... how to willingly... join me in death.”
