Sun Wukong Takes a Bride, Who Turns Out to Be the Ninth Queen of the Kingdom of Women

Three hundred years after completing the pilgrimage for the scriptures, Wukong revisits the places he once traveled through on his journey west.

The peach blossoms in the Kingdom of Women are still in bloom. In the imperial garden, the new queen catches a glimpse of him and looks back with a gentle smile. “Great Sage, I have waited for you through nine lifetimes.”

A yellowed scroll slips from her sleeve. To his astonishment, it bears Wukong’s own handwriting from long ago: “In our next life, I will not let you down.”

He offers immortal peaches as the betrothal gift, and rosy clouds carry their bridal sedan. Petals rain down from the thirty-three heavens.

The Jade Emperor officiates at the wedding in the Hall of Miraculous Mist, while the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas bring a forest of coral as their wedding gift.

But on their wedding night, the queen’s fingertips suddenly turn transparent. Her voice is as faint as a sigh. “Fate says… we have only a hundred days to love each other.”

Wukong throws back his head and laughs, pointing his golden cudgel straight at Spirit Mountain. “Then I’ll remake heaven and earth and seize eternity back!”
