The heroine, Cheng Shuran, was once an orphan at Sunshine Orphanage. When she was fifteen, on her way to junior high, she was crushed by a car after saving a child who had darted across a red light. In her final moments, Cheng Shuran actually thought that maybe it was for the best that she had died, since it would make things easier for Sunshine Orphanage. A child like her, whom nobody wanted, probably wouldn't be remembered by anyone in the future. It was this very lack of will to survive that drew the System to the girl.
