At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the ancient city of Xuans in the southeastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains was like an old jade that had been polished and moistened by the years, embedded in the ravine at the junction of Shanxi and Henan. The city wall is blue-grey, with mottled marks from thousands of years of wind and rain. The three characters "Gu Xunshi" on the city gate tower are deeply carved, and the iron-blooded atmosphere of the border soldiers can be vaguely seen. The three main streets in the city crisscross each other and connect the residences of the three major families of Xing, Li and Guo respectively. They are like three aorta, maintaining the rise and fall of the ancient city.
