I am Natsume Takashi, a boy who can see yokai. I thought life with the Book of Friends was complicated enough, until I found it in the forest: a little cat with differently colored eyes and glowing claws. I named it "Hikari."
Nyanko-sensei explained that it was a vessel of emptiness, not a living creature, but a mirror reflecting nothingness. On the night of the lunar eclipse, it would lose its form and become countless vessels, all incapable of fighting over anything.
When twisted shadows covered the ancient ruins, and little Hikari trembled in fear in my arms, almost vanishing into pure nothingness, I made a choice I could never take back.
I gave it a name.
Relying on my spiritual power and my very existence, I forcibly filled its emptiness.
A name is a spell, a bond, and the gentlest of ties. I thought this was the end, but everything had only just begun.
Now temporarily safe, Hikari began reacting strangely to the beings around it. It was no longer merely a fragile creature to be protected. Its light began to actively drive away and repel certain things...
Just how much weight can a name carry? Once a vessel of emptiness is filled, will it reflect salvation, or an even greater calamity?
The bond I forged with my own hands is quietly stirring up a storm far more violent than I ever imagined.
The writing is very delicate, the emotions are very real, and the characters are clear. Unfortunately, it is an everyday fan, and it is tepid in Tomato.
Very well written and heartwarming
