The story is set in the Kingdom of Yan, and goes hand in hand with the temple and the people to show the absurdity of power and the warmth of life. Jiang Mo, a wanderer, was involved in the court affairs by chance, and his fate was intertwined with the prime minister's daughter Pei Lingyi, the powerful minister Wei Shide, and the border general Song Qianzhong. Above the temple, power and family affection, love, and friendship interact with each other; below among the people, daily necessities, rice, oil, salt, and the little people in the market warm each other. The trilogy respectively depicts the initial exploration of power, the change of times and the ending of fate. It has multiple parallel lines and layers of ups and downs. It not only satirizes the absurdity of society, but also warmly embraces the joys and sorrows of the people. In the end, all the characters complete their self-salvation through struggle, growth and letting go, presenting a picture of the era that is both sad and happy, humorous and absurd.
