At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the prosperous times were hard to come back, wars were everywhere, and the people were in dire straits. Six people including Yu Sanshui, Wang Goudan, Zhao Baimi, and Li Ruyi in the lower-level market were separated and lived together in the war and turmoil. They used ridicule and humor to resist the irony of fate, turned suffering into daily jokes, watched and supported each other in extreme poverty and turmoil, experienced food grabbing, avoiding military disasters, loyalty to save people, and destiny separation. Everyone has their own story line: Sanshui runs for the imperial examination, Goudan seeks family revenge, Baimi guards the shop, Ruyi explores his life experience, the old lady witnesses the vicissitudes of life, and Ahjiu struggles to save himself. With the establishment of a new dynasty, everyone experiences loss, betrayal and redemption, and explores the direction of hope in the mud and laughter. The trilogy unfolds with the main line of the growth of each character. When the troubled times finally settled, they discovered the greatness in humbleness, redeemed each other, integrated their personal destiny into the times, and completed the tragedy of the times in the glimmer of each other's hands.
