Feng Muyao, a five-colored white lotus fairy from the Jade Pool, willingly offers up thirty percent of her immortal essence to help Nezha, who has carved out his flesh to return it to his parents, rebuild his lotus body. But after violating the laws of heaven and damaging her immortal essence, she is banished to the mortal world to endure the “Seven Emotions Tribulation.” The Heavenly Worthy of Primordial Beginning, moved by her selflessness, asks Taiyi Zhenren to take her as his disciple. Her identity as an immortal is concealed, and she and Nezha call each other senior brother and junior sister as they set out together on King Wu’s campaign against King Zhou.
During the campaign, A Yao performs many extraordinary feats with her ice magic and the Frostfall Fan. But with her immortal essence damaged, signs of her approaching death gradually appear: her fingertips turn bluish, her immortal power falters, and her senses grow dull. Even the lotus sprout she treasures, a reflection of her immortal essence, quietly begins to yellow. Though Nezha knows nothing of the origins of his body, he instinctively protects her, and feelings blossom between them. In Zhaoge, they find a small courtyard and plant the lotus sprout and some reeds, hoping for a peaceful life after the war.
But her immortal essence withers far faster than expected. In her final moments, Daji unleashes an ancient evil, and A Yao spends her last reserves of immortal energy protecting the people of Zhaoge. Her identity is finally revealed. Faced with the choice of returning to the Jade Pool to recuperate or staying in the mortal world until she perishes, she chooses to turn her last immortal energy into a lotus flower and remain in the courtyard she shared with Nezha. After Nezha achieves sainthood in the flesh, he tends the lotus pond filling the courtyard and the faded Frostfall Fan. He honors his promise to her by bringing peace to the Three Realms, and year after year, he lives with his longing, accompanied by the lotus.
