In this epic blending science fiction and mythology, modern physicist Chen Yuan accidentally transmigrates to the Battle of Muye at the end of the Shang dynasty. Armed with scientific knowledge far beyond his time, he repeatedly thwarts the Zhou army’s attacks, aided by gods and demons: sound waves shatter magical beasts, magnetic fields defeat Nezha, and chemistry puts out fire dragons. The Shang king, Di Xin, honors him as the “Court Artisan.”
Yet dark currents swirl in the capital, Chaoge. The gods manipulate events from behind the scenes, while treacherous ministers plot against Chen Yuan from within and the crown prince defects from without. Chen Yuan forges an extraordinary alliance with the Shang princess Zi Shu and Su Daji, a fox spirit hiding a secret, to stand against the gods’ oppression under Nüwa’s leadership. Through one grueling battle after another, Di Xin awakens the ancient bloodline of the Human Emperor, but even that cannot halt the kingdom’s decline. The Muye defenses collapse, Chaoge is besieged, loyal ministers fall, father and daughter are torn apart, and the Yin-Shang dynasty enters its final chapter.
With the capital on the verge of falling, Di Xin and Su Daji sacrifice their lives to unleash the forbidden art “Reforging Heaven and Earth,” dealing a devastating blow to the gods’ source of power. Chen Yuan carries on their legacy, turning the tide with the “Scientific Singularity Array.” In the end, he forces the gods to sign the Pact Between Humans and Gods and withdraw from the mortal world. In the story’s closing scene, the stars call Chen Yuan and Zi Shu back to the present. Carrying memories of the ancient past and a mission still unfinished, they begin a new chapter in the modern city.
This is a magnificent tale of science colliding with mythology, mortals challenging the gods, and love transcending fate.
