Luo Jiuyue

Luo Jiuyue, an illegitimate daughter of the fourth branch of the Yongning Marquis’s household, depends on her concubine mother for support. In a rigidly stratified ancient empire, she lives a life as lowly as mud. When she is ten, her legitimate older sister pushes her into a lotus pond. As she lies dying, a wandering soul from another world enters her sickly body. From then on, she comes out by day and is active by night, using the medical skills and ancient ring she brought from another world to make her way in the night markets of the capital.

When she is twelve, the marquis’s household becomes a casualty of the imperial power struggle. Her grandmother, the Grand Princess, dies, and the household falls completely, its members arrested and exiled to the barren lands of Bashu.

On the way into exile, her father and stepmother try to sell her mother for money. Unable to leave her mother alone, Luo Jiuyue pretends to be ill and is sold along with her to a ruthless hunter.

At thirteen, she meets Xiao Yu, a fifteen-year-old boy.

At eighteen, she is preparing to marry Xiao Yu when, on the eve of the wedding, the groom runs away. She moves away with her stepfather and mother, and from then on begins traveling the world…

At twenty, her mother sends word that she is gravely ill. Luo Jiuyue rushes back, only to find Xiao Yu blocking her inside the house.

Become empress? She has no desire to…

But her combat skills are nonexistent, and her whole family is only too willing to side with whoever has the upper hand.

Still, Your Majesty, your palace can’t keep me locked up!
