"Shuangqing" is a novel written by the famous modern writer Wang Tongzhao during the Anti-Japanese War.
This is the first volume planned by the author. Unfortunately, there is no sequel to the second volume.
The novel is set in the northern society during the Northern Expedition. Through Xiaoqian, a woman who has fallen into the dust but has a deep sense of justice and cares about her country as the core character, it unfolds three intertwined narrative threads: the extravagance of the upper class, rampant local banditry, and the torrent of the Northern Expedition revolution. The author creates a distinct image of Xiaoqian with the theme of "life is as thin as paper, but heart is as high as the sky", and together with her adoptive father Gao Dayi and other characters, they form a group portrait of characters who adhere to national integrity and moral bottom line in the turbulence of the times.
In terms of artistic techniques, Wang Tongzhao broke through his previous realistic creation practices and adopted strong romantic brushstrokes and exquisite symbolic structures.
The title of the book "Double Purification" itself implies the expectation of double purification of personality and era. Through the alternating use of the folk storyteller's perspective and the omniscient perspective, as well as the confrontational character setting, the work forms a strong moral mirror contrast, which is unique in the war literature of the time.
