When the memories of his ten lifetimes awakened, Tang Sanzang finally learned the truth: he was Chen Ming, who drowned while teaching in a rural school on Earth; he was Jin Chanzi, whose merit had been divided among the gods and Buddhas; and he was the pilgrim who had traveled 108,000 miles to obtain the scriptures.
He returned to the Great Tang with the Mahayana scriptures, and the Rule-Breaking, Life-Protecting System finally activated, granting him two formations that could match any opponent. He had hoped to rest for a while, but then he saw Wukong pleading for the Dragon King of the Jing River, the uncle of the White Dragon Horse, only for the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King Li Jing to beat him until he coughed blood.
Gods and Buddhas from across the heavens surrounded Golden Light Temple, demanding that he hand over his disciples and condemning the idea that "humans and gods are equal" as heresy.
All gentleness vanished from Tang Sanzang's eyes. "I am no longer Jin Chanzi! You turn a blind eye to the mountains of bones at Lion-Camel Ridge, and do nothing when the mounts of immortals and Buddhas eat people. How can you claim the Three Realms are at peace?"
His kasaya swept through the air as he changed his name to Tang Sanzang, the Three Burials: burying Heaven, Earth, and the old rules! The mighty Heavenly Dragon appeared, and he proclaimed his title as the World-Honored One of Three Burials: "Humans and gods are equally accountable, and good and evil are repaid! All evildoers, whether immortal, Buddha, demon, or monster, will be punished. All who do good, from ordinary people to plants and trees, will be protected!"
In this life, he would not seek Buddhahood by obtaining the scriptures. He would protect his master and fellow disciples, redress injustice, and establish a new Heaven where all living beings could determine their own fate!
