The Mole in Wu Wu's Palm

“Why is there a mole on your palm, just like my mother’s?”

Su Wuwu would never forget how, when she was desperate for money to pay her mother’s medical bills, Gu Yanshen’s stunned question struck her bleak life like a ray of light.

She was a working-class girl trying to raise money for her mother; he was a distant, aloof CEO from a wealthy family. Their worlds could hardly have been farther apart, yet a mole on her palm bound their fates together. At first, she thought she was nothing more than a stand-in for the mother he missed. But his actions dispelled every doubt: he covered her enormous medical bills, arranged a safe place for her to stay, kept her company through long nights at the hospital, and even remembered all her little preferences.

When gossip spread and her rivals sneered that she was “climbing the social ladder” and “playing the substitute,” he took her hand and shielded her behind him. “It was never the mole I loved. It was the way you fought with everything you had to protect your mother, and the tenderness and strength you can’t hide in your eyes.”

From keeping her company late at night in the hospital to planting a little Chinese parasol tree together on the balcony; from standing side by side at work to planning a new home for the two of them, they slowly grew closer, bridging their differences with sincere affection and warming each other’s lonely pasts with small acts of care.

The mole on her palm was where their fateful encounter began, but the love hidden in the warmth of everyday life was the real answer. A meeting that began with a mole would, beneath a Chinese parasol tree, bloom into the warmest of flowers.
