The moment he jolts awake from working overtime, Wang Shier plunges into a void woven with runes. Twelve figures hover in the sky: the alter egos of every superpowered person, and also deadly enemies bent on killing him.
A phantom calling itself the “Calculator” reveals a brutal truth: each of the twelve alter egos possesses a different ability. The beauty can ensnare souls with illusions, the athlete can split the earth with brute force, the doctor hides poison in their blood, and the one who returns can devour damage. Wang Shier must devour every alter ego to unlock his sealed memories. Each new mark on his snake-shaped ring brings him more power, but also puts him at greater risk of losing himself. As the alter egos’ memories begin to overlap with his own, the truth emerges: they were never fragments, but experimental subjects created by the Black-Robed Man, and the keys to breaking the seal on another world.
Beneath the neon lights, the city has long since become a hunting ground. Wang Shier, the “hunter” devouring the alter egos, may have been the most important sacrificial offering all along.
