The modern city "Linzhou" in 2025 is prosperous on the surface but hides a lot of "folk custom alienation phenomena". Due to the distorted interpretation of modern society, those forgotten traditional customs have given rise to absurd rules and strange stories and Cthulhu-like "folk spirits". The Folklore Affairs Coordinating Bureau (referred to as the "Poll Bureau") was established to deal with these supernatural events, and the protagonist is the Bureau's most unreliable field researcher.
