Roses and Silver Coins

In the thick fog of medieval London, eighteen-year-old Agnes stakes her last hope outside the Royal Theatre, determined to change her fate.

Sir Bartholomew sees through her clumsy performance at a glance.

The scholar, now sixty, sees his lost youth in her eyes.

An act of sheltering her that begins with a lie brings two lonely souls unexpectedly close.

When the past is finally unveiled, it turns out that her mother was the lover he had been forced to leave behind in his youth. The threads of fate bind them even more tightly together.

Yet society will not accept such a union.

When accusations of witchcraft arise, Bartholomew unhesitatingly stakes his lifelong reputation on her.

In the flames of the trial, Agnes finally understands that true worth does not come from what a woman can get from a man, but from becoming her own person.

A relationship that began with calculation ultimately reveals the true nature of love through redemption. It makes fools wise, makes the old young again, and helps two imperfect souls find their whole selves in each other.
