God of Drama: Don’t Call Me the God of Drama!

Chen Ling, a bit-part actor in a theater troupe, only wants to earn enough to get by. Instead, he is forced to perform in a play where his life is the stake.

Other plays pay you. This one takes your life!

When the spotlights come on, the audience is made up of twisted abominations, whispering whispers, and beings known as the “Uncanny.” Perform poorly, and the curtain falls on you right there. Perform well, and you become their eternal “collectible.”

Desperate, Chen Ling discovers that his mind holds scripts from another world: Shakespeare, Guan Hanqing, Stanislavski…

And so the whole thing starts going off script:

While everyone else screams and flees through a horror script, he plays the melancholy prince, reciting “To be or not to be” to the monster boss.

While everyone else kneels before the gods in a mythological script, he transforms into the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, who once wreaked havoc in the Celestial Palace, and points his golden cudgel at the idols: “You call yourself a god?”

He draws madness from playing a clown and gains strength by portraying heroes. He is a mad actor striding along the boundary between reality and illusion, a “theater maniac” who makes even the Uncanny tremble!

As the world-ending final act approaches, all manner of uncanny beings and the mastermind behind the scenes surround him, roaring their question: “What the hell are you?!”

Chen Ling straightens his crooked bow tie and wears a cryptic smile:

“I told you, don’t call me the God of Theater.”

“I’m just… a performing artist passing through.”
