On the Burma Highway in 1942, female nurse Xia Wanxing accompanied the medical team to support the front line and met Zhao Lei, a driver responsible for transporting supplies. Zhao Lei was a deserter from the Kuomintang and returned to the battlefield out of guilt. The two redeemed each other amidst the Japanese bombing and material shortages. In the end, Xia Wanxing healed Zhao Lei's psychological trauma and jointly protected the lifeline.
