Su Yue, a modern single mother, traveled to the famine years after the Jingkang Incident in the Song Dynasty, and had a thin "son" Xiao Shitou beside her. In order to support Xiao Shitou, she reclaimed land next to the ruins, planted drought-resistant crops, and went fishing by the river and hunting in the mountains. She used modern parenting knowledge to take care of Xiao Shitou and help the villagers resist bandits. She was eventually protected by the reclusive general Xiao Ce and formed a happy family.
