Amian, the dream tapir, makes a living by devouring human nightmares, but during one of his devourings, he was trapped in the dream of the insomniac doctor Gu Yan. Gu Yan can enter other people's dreams, and the two reach an agreement: Amian helps Gu Yan heal the patient, and Gu Yan helps Amian break away from the shackles of dreams. As they get along, they discover that they are both entangled in the same "nightmare source."
