At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty collapsed, wars broke out, and the people were in dire straits. The story begins in the western suburbs of Beijing. Six people from the bottom of society met in hardship and worked together to form a "small refugee gang" to embark on a journey of survival and self-redemption in exile. They each carry unsolvable pain and humor, and through seemingly humble choices, they complete an epic growth that belongs to ordinary people. The story is interspersed with satire on the world, narrating sorrow and joy, using humor and self-deprecation to dispel despair, and capturing the warmth and tenacity of human nature in troubled times. The three volumes start from "Escape and Wandering", "Enjoyment in Suffering", and "Decision of Life and Death" respectively, presenting a multi-line, compact and ups and downs picture of troubled times, and finally ending in the troubled times, writing an epic of ordinary life.
