Later, he gradually joined the military force, urging Gongsun Zan to abandon the desperate border bridge advance and instead stabilize the rear of Youzhou and connect local farms; he also assisted in training infantry to make up for the shortcomings of the cavalry, and eased conflicts with the nobles to gather internal strength.
After that, he followed Gongsun Zan to resist the Hu tribe and contend with the heroes. He used mortal wisdom to avoid historical mistakes and helped this powerful northern force gradually integrate the resources of You and Hebei, step by step out of the predicament of decline, and make arduous strides towards the goal of ending the troubled times and unifying the country.
