There is a taboo in our village: you cannot pick up copper coins on the ground late at night.
That year of famine, in order to buy medicine for my seriously ill mother, I picked up a string of bronze coins tied with a red string at the entrance of the village.
That night, a man wearing a blood-red wedding dress stood beside my bed:
"Since I accepted the betrothal gift, tonight will be the wedding ceremony for you and me."
I was so scared that I threw the copper coins into the well.
The next day, the well water in the whole village turned blood red.
And that ghostly figure chuckled in my ear:
"If Madam continues to disobey, next time, next time, the whole village will be the ones who turn red.
