Good Deeds, Demonic Shadow tells the story of Lin Xiao, who did good deeds for three lifetimes before being born in the Rakshasa Kingdom. He holds on to his kindness, yet is betrayed again and again: an elderly person he helps falsely accuses him of causing an injury, his charitable donations are misappropriated, his education funds are swindled, and Su Qing, the woman he trusts and loves, cheats him out of all his assets. At his lowest point, the soul of Andus, a half-demon, merges with him and uses violence to help him strike back at the villains. The two form a strange bond between good and evil.
Lin Xiao is not consumed by darkness. With Andus's help and his own steadfast kindness, he meets like-minded people such as Su Xiao, Xiaoya, and Lie Jiao, and forms an anti-bullying alliance. Together with the half-beast tribes and the Elven Kingdom, they overcome one crisis after another: a Cambodian gang's organ trafficking operation, the Rakshasa Kingdom's tyranny under the control of a demon of desire, and an invasion by the armies of the Demon Realm. Along the way, Lin Xiao's soul resonates with the Elven Holy Mother, and the two cultivate together and attain Buddhahood. He accumulates merit, lifts the thousand-year skin-changing curse on the beastfolk, and clears the names of the wronged souls of the Elven Kingdom.
In the end, Lin Xiao joins forces with the righteous powers of the three realms to defeat the Demon King and rebuild the Rakshasa Kingdom. After settling his earthly ties, he sheds his mortal body and becomes a Buddha, ruling over the righteous path to bliss together with the Holy Mother and fulfilling his mission to protect all living beings. The story explores the struggle between good and evil, and the choices between trust and betrayal. It follows Lin Xiao's growth from a simple do-gooder into a guardian who combines compassion with decisiveness, while Andus finds redemption through their shared existence.
