Lin Mo, a 24-year-old second-hand furniture restorer, runs a secondhand store "With Wood" that is about to close down. He is withdrawn and has a sharp tongue, and his only hobby is dealing with old furniture that cannot speak. Until one rainy night, he heard intermittent crying from an antique chair that was to be restored.
He discovered that he had awakened a strange ability - to communicate with objects carrying strong "obsession".
A chair will cry about the murder it witnessed; a pen will complain that the previous owner wrote too many disgusting love letters; a broken vase will regret a lost love.
From then on, Lin Mo's life was completely turned upside down. He rummaged through the junk pile to find secrets buried by the years, and asked from the silent evidence the truth that had been forgotten by the world. When the police were at a loss to solve an unsolved case, little did they know that the most critical "witness" might be lying on Lin Mo's workbench, waiting for him to "pry open" its mouth with sandpaper and wood wax oil.
This is a wonderful story about an unreliable "storyteller" who restores old things while restoring the truth in a bustling city.
