[Serious history] [Epic ensemble cast] [Hardcore survival]
I am a lone historian, tasked with recording the past.
Everything I wrote went up in flames. The archives, the classics, even the few hundred words of “official history” I had been permitted to record all turned to ash in the blaze.
All I managed to save was a forbidden private chronicle, along with a truth passed down by word of mouth for a century, carried in the blood and whispered in the dark.
The truth about Feizi, about relay stations, about how the first fire was kindled amid the glaciers.
Then I fell into the very history I had written and reconstructed time and again, but never truly touched.
The people here walk before me, alive and real. They don’t know that in later generations, their entire lives will be reduced to a few cold lines, or a crime pinned on them as their defining mark.
They have no idea that I, an intruder from nowhere, share the same ancestral roots as one of them.
They see me as a heretic, because I know too many details and endings that should have been forgotten.
All right.
When the historian’s brush becomes an accomplice, the truth must be rewritten by me, the last person who knows
carved anew with my own hands.
[PS: This is a pot of soup simmered slowly over a low flame]
Readers who love breakneck pacing, beware! This book is all about “immersive archaeology.” Spending dozens of chapters laying the foundations, honing tools, and building the first thatched hut is par for the course. There’s no System, no instant invincibility, just a group of real people struggling, thinking, and creating on frozen ground.
This story is for fellow travelers who are willing to savor the process, respect hard work, and find starlight in the details.
Jue Juezi! I read dozens of chapters in one breath. The plot is really novel, not cliched at all, very thoughtful, the characters are also to my liking, the writing is delicate and smooth, and the pictures are full of sense.
