"Letter from the South"
The bond between Su Qingci and Lu Wangshu is hidden in twelve letters spanning many provinces. When he was twenty years old, Su Qingci went south to study with his drawing board on his back, while Lu Wangshu stayed in a northern town to teach. The green train carried their parting and their unspoken feelings.
Every letter is filled with the humid water vapor from the south, filled with fallen sycamore leaves in the Academy of Fine Arts and the smell of paint in the studio; every reply is stained with snow particles from the north, filled with the sound of reading in the classroom and the scent of candied haws in the alley. The distance lengthened the time, but it did not dilute the concern.
When the twelfth letter arrived, there was a round-trip ticket in the envelope - it turned out that there was some waiting, and the road to reunion had already been paved between the lines.
