"Linquan Gaozhi" is an important monograph on the creation of landscape paintings in the Northern Song Dynasty. Produced during the period when Chinese landscape painting was fully mature, it concentrated on many basic issues related to natural beauty and landscape painting. In the process of exploring the artistic beauty of landscape painting, Guo Xi created the theory of "Three Distances", namely high distance, deep distance, and flat distance. He theoretically clarified the three different spatial treatments unique to Chinese landscape painting and the resulting beauty of artistic conception and composition.
